In the age of ‘fast fashion’ it is difficult to appreciate the time and painstaking effort that goes into making Haute Couture. As viewers we only see a quick glimpse of these intricate pieces considering that within minutes a fashion show is over, making it far too easy to overlook the skilled artisans who live to create exceptional clothes, but without them none of these collections would be possible. Here busy hands from the Chanel Atelier (home to some of the most talented craftsmen) work on a elegant two piece for the Haute Couture Fall/Winter 2012 collection, it’s made of countless shimmering sequins, a new take on tweed with silken threads and woven fluffy fabrics, and an abundance of breathtaking beading so microscopic it is hard to believe they were sewn on one by one by hand. These artisans are the masterminds behind taking the atelier to the runway, and turning the dream of a wonderful collection into a reality. pictures via.
